A Narrative of the Adventures and Escape of Moses Roper from American Slavery (1838) American Edition

[Nonfiction]

World War I

Narrative of the Escape of Moses Roper is a thrilling real-life story about the daring escape from slavery to freedom in pre-Civil War America. Noted as one of the first books written by a former slave, this story still resonates today about the plight of how badly human beings treated one another during a time not long ago. After Moses Roper escaped, he later moved to England where he published his account in 1838. Roper  returned to the United States in the last years of his life and died in April 1891.
