Log of the Kaalokai details the travels and adventures around the Hawaiian Islands at the turn of the nineteenth century. Rich in detail about life on the ocean, it brings back to life a time when simply joys could be gotten by just gazing at the ocean. His memoir has been reprinted in several book collections focusing on the history of the Hawaiian Islands.
