Black Beauty is a novel by Anna Sewell seen through the eyes of a mistreated service horse in Victorian England that eventually finds happiness later in life after much suffering. With over fifty million copies sold worldwide since its publication in 1877, Black Beauty is one of the highest-selling books of all time. The novel has been made into numerous movies, the most notable being the classic 1971 version from Paramount Pictures. Sewell died at the age of 58 in April 1878 shortly after the publication of her first and only novel.
