Diary of a Nursing Sister on the Western Front was first published anonymously in 1915 and later credited to Kate Evelyn Luard. The diary covers the experiences of a nurse in France as World War I raged. Written as she lived it, Luard’s diary is one of the best first-person accounts of what life was like when the world seemed on fire. Luard died in August 1962 at age 90.
